John Ricco

John Ricco is a ten-year cancer survivor, diagnosed at age 52 with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in June 2000.

The Ride of Your Life was inspired by John's need to help others along their cancer journey by providing a set of tools to attain a positive attitude. That way, someone dealing with cancer can avoid "reinventing the wheel" to cope with their disease. He has drawn from his own personal cancer experience, as well as from conversations with others through support groups, peer patient support, and during his travels for cancer treatment. Positive attitude is what got John through his cancer, and he shares his real life ride with cancer to help others attain a positive outlook from diagnosis through treatment, and for life going forward. The Ride of Your Life is written in a personal style with humor and optimism. As a result of having a positive attitude, the survivor believes life is good, and has a new purpose in their life.

John is retired, and now devotes his time to helping others by active involvement in volunteering in the Detroit area with Gilda's Club Metro Detroit and the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he has served in a peer patient support capacity for two different bone marrow transplant organizations for several years. John is totally committed to giving back as a result of his lengthy remission from cancer.

John had a 30-year career in accounting and finance, working in public accounting and as a CFO. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a M.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Detroit Mercy. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

This is the first book he has written. John resides in Farmington Hills, Michigan with his wife, Jan. They have three grown daughters.
